12/04/12 - Kangaroo Island, part 1

Prospect Hill - retracing the steps of Matthew Flinders
Casa Bews - thanks for the goodies!
We were sent on our way armed with half a Baker’s Delight shop in the back (thanks again Ann and family!), and unusually Annaliza was less stressed than Tony in getting to the Kangaroo Island Ferry. Until she realised it was at 12, not 12:30… Made it by the skin of our teeth, and were the last car on the boat – massive bonus that this also meant we were the first off!

Sea lion - surely cute Jacki?
Dune jumping. More impressive
than it looks!
Decided that we wouldn’t try and squeeze too much in during the first day on KI (pretty rare for us!), and stuck to the south coast of the island. This took us to the sea lions at seal bay (Jacki’s idea of heaven, I’m sure), the turquoise waters of Vivonne Bay and the sand dune Little Sahara.
Vivonne Bay
Upon arriving at Flinders Chase National Park we were lucky enough to camp right by a group with loads of kids. Ace news.

 Key learnings
Fine tuning the guy ropes
in the Doona suit. Good look!
I don’t know how many times I’ve seen beaches touted with the title ‘best beach in Australia’, but is this an official accolade? Handed out monthly? Surely, if it’s the best beach, it stays the best beach forever? Not really a fact – sorry. Rant over.
