Our room in Bo Phut
Was an effort to drag ourselves out of bed after an interrupted night, and
Tony stuck to water and dried toast at the buffet (pretty gutting really, when
it’s the last hurrah at the extensive breakfast buffet, but needs must!) before
the packing commenced. A mad taxi driver nearly broke the sound barrier on
speeding us to the airport, much to Tony’s pain – every bump in the road was
met with a grimace… Once a price has been settled, taxi drivers tend to tear up
the roads to the best of their ability – not great for the nerves.

The view to Koh PHa Ngan from the rooftop pool
Had improved sufficiently to risk a meatball Subway at the airport – the
Thai’s version of this footlong is very much a poor man’s cousin of the Aussie
version! We encountered a much younger traveller vibe on the trip to Koh Samui
preparing for the full moon party delights which was a refreshing change, and
weren’t sure if we were getting too old for that sort of stuff – we’d have to
wait and see…

The night market at Bo Phut
Another taxi journey later and we’d got to our peaceful little spot in the
heart of the Fisherman’s Village in Bo Phut, where the sun continued to shine (assisted in no small part by our free upgrade to a beach front view!).
We enjoyed a firework display over the water before heading for dinner and
checking out the Friday market. Tony still wasn’t ready for a Mojito at the
street stalls, so Annaliza was left to take those on…

Key Learnings:
1. The statement ‘I saw
someone selling those T-shirts/sunglasses/bikinis (delete as appropriate) down
there for that price’ is invaluable in the arts of bartering, Thai style. They
come to the table and deal far more quickly…
