Frequent dips in the pool required - apologies for the Tony flesh on show... |
After threatening to the day before, the sun broke out in style today. This
meant that the buffet breakfast was wolfed down at about 3 times the normal
pace, then it was a dash to the loungers by the pool. That’s where we basically
stayed the entire day, interrupted by brief dips in the pool to cool off or
make a drink orders from the bar – the tough life continued!

 |
| Phuket from the BB viewpoint |
Concerned that we might not see another blue sky, we thought we’d try and
get some of the culture (!) and views of Phuket around sunset that day. This
treated us to our first bit of Tuk-tuk action and showcased the impressive Thai
roads (we were glad we hadn’t organised our own transport – enough said!), and
before long we were looking up at the Big Buddha. Like a significant volume of
Thai buildings, this was still a work in progress with steel reinforcements
jutting out at all angles, but the views we got of the island were great.

| Disco time - Tuk-tuk stylie |
On the way back we partied under the personalised disco lighting, avoided
the elephants roaming the streets and treated ourselves to dinner at the Mom Tri’s
Villa Royale restaurant at the other end of Kata beach. Prices were a step up
from Lucky Tom’s, but a massive bonus that they forgot to charge us for the
cocktails!

Key Learnings:
1. After 4 years in
Australia, Tony’s sensitivity to sun has improved, even though his skin’s
capacity to get burnt very quickly has remained the same! Amazingly this was
the first time the after sun was required, but we were on the third or fourth
bottle of factor 30…
