| Our best flower arranging skills on show... |

| Phang Na Bay |
 |
| Pick a kayak, any kayak... |
Given that the seas had been surprisingly calm the day before, we took a
gamble and crossed our fingers for another similar day, heading into Phang Na
bay with John Gray’s Sea Canoe team late morning. After a hilarious speech
about how we were to behave in the canoe (accompanied by a funny cartoon book –
necessary given the standard of English) followed by bizarre instructions on
swimming in the sea and number 2’s (leave it at that!), we set off.

Tony's best lungfish impression (a strange land/water fish) |

| Doing it tough |
Every couple had their own personal guide in their private inflatable canoe,
and we had three great stops in some slightly less populated locales than the
more famous James Bond and Phi Phi islands, assisted by the fact that we were
there midafternoon rather than midday, meaning our tour group was basically on
their own. Very peaceful and relaxing being paddled along by someone else!

| More kayak action |
Back on the boat it was time for some pre-dinner flower arranging before
dinner, then we were taken into our final cave after sunset to offer the flower
arrangement to the gods, make a wish and check out the phosphorescence (which
was amazing). The 2 hour trip back was spent being entertained by people
watching and ipod listening.
Key Learnings:
 |
| Not quite James Bond's island, but a close second... |
1. Dan Simmons’ book ‘Drood: A Novel’ might be a piece of literary genius, but
it’s definitely not suitable for a road trip then beach holiday. Tony had
started it when this adventure commenced, and only just finished it today.
Needless to say, not really a page turner (or clicker, given it was on the
Kindle!)
2.
Careful when presented with large volumes of food at a Thai buffet dinner.
Especially where copious amounts of seafood are involved. Fortunately, Tony was
on the toilet side of the bed – it wasn’t a great night…
