| Tree in a rock |
Couldn’t get out of the campsite quick enough… Stopped at the Stirling
Ranges for a quick ascent of Bluff Knoll – would have been quicker, but for the
persistent limp… It was obviously the time for fuel reduction burning in the area,
as there were multiple controlled fires we could see from the top – Tony’s FEA
knowledge was coming into good use! Saw the marvel that is the Tree in a Rock
at the Porongurup National Park, and then back to the coast headed to Albany.
We’d been warned that this should be placed on the avoid list, and were
pleasantly surprised – it had been a long time since we were somewhere you
could accurately describe as a city.

The Gap - these Australian names continued to amaze |
After surviving on camping food and sarnies for so long, being able to enjoy
a burger and chips made it a highlight. With full bellies, we pushed on to
Denmark via the Torndirrup National Park (where the warning signings meant Tony
resisted going on the Natural bridge – probably a wise move), then had a Friday
movie night in the tent, rather than watch Freo V Carlton with the locals.
Key Learnings:
1. Drive is a slow moving, very violent movie. Not really a goodie for a
camping trip.
2. Torbay is smaller in WA
than it is in Devon. So small, in fact, that we didn’t even manage to get a
picture of a signpost for it…
