30/04/12 - Onwards to the state capital

Shelly Cove and Bunker Bay - on the edge of the continental shelf

Rugged coastline

Skipped the lighthouse tour at the opposite cape, Cape Naturaliste, but took a wander on a couple of the walking tracks for more vantage points of the rugged coastline. We’d have to come back to do the full Cape to Cape trek…

Busselton Jetty - Bulls Eyes
More jetty action

Tours at Bussellton jetty were virtually fully booked (bloody school trips!), but we managed to squeeze onto a mini tour. Annoyingly, that meant we had to walk up and down the jetty rather than enjoy the comfort of the 1.8km train ride (yep – it was a serious jetty!), but was made more manageable with some ice-cream fuel inside the engine. Seeing the underwater world beneath the jetty was very cool, but still no Leafy Seadragon…

Despite my chat up lines, we
still couldn't snag a ride on the train!

Twas a long jetty

Lucy - this one's for you!

From there it was foot down to Perth, where Chris and Catharine were kindly putting up with us for two nights. Home cooked food was a huge treat – definitely need to get the recipe for the sticky date pudding. Decided not to join Chris at 3am in watching Man City defeat Man U to virtually claim the premiership title…

Key Learnings
1.       It’s easier to get up and out of a tent than it is from a proper bed…
2.    Catherine is a very good cook
