13/05/12 – Broome Broome!

Cable beach sunset

Hospitality delights at
Port Hedland

Pass the salt

We were desperate to leave the mining wastelands of Port Hedland as quickly as possible, and it wasn’t something you could really describe as a tearful farewell.

Another day, another Newman
reference...
It was then a long day behind the wheel – around 600kms to be precise. We contemplated taking a detour to the coast at 80 Mile Beach, but then decided we’d seen quite a bit of remarkable coast already and were headed to more later that day so it was one we’d miss (especially given it was on dirt roads and there was no longer an operational spare wheel in the boot!).

Hello camels
Upon arriving at Broome we set up camp at ‘the quiet alternative’ (the branding of the campsite), then headed for a beer on the beach to see our first Cable Beach sunset. Stunning. At around 2am all hell broke loose at the quiet alternative, a massive shouting match between a couple of Frenchies and an Australian about the noise being made. Ironic that it woke up half the camp, and would have been incredibly entertaining had we not been knackered.

Sunset #2

Key Learnings:

         1.  Red Balloon vouchers expire a year after purchase – be careful if you get them!

Beard update #3 – Almost can pass it off as a proper beard now, and it is satisfyingly strokeable!
